Deutsche Lichtmiete is a producer and lessor of LED industrial lighting. It develops lighting concepts and plans and implements their realisation. For this purpose, they use energy-saving LED lighting systems which are developed and produced at the German location in Oldenburg. They are then leased to companies from industry and commerce.

Challenge

Lighting systems, which have been installed in a company by Deutsche Lichtmiete should be able to be monitored by the customer himself or by the electrical specialist responsible. A corresponding Web-Portal should make data such as operating hours, brightness, frequency of use, power consumption and even ambient temperature visible. Hardware and software must be combined and interfaces must be set up. What is always essential here is that the portal must be highly user-friendly, meaning that it must be intuitive to use.

Collaboration

Together with Deutsche Lichtmiete, SWMS defined the project framework and developed concrete work packages from it. Clear priorities were defined and the possibility of extending the portal at any time, for example with additional functions, was planned. SWMS exchanged ideas with the Deutsche Lichtmiete team almost on a daily basis. Every two weeks, the status quo and the next steps were discussed in a meeting. SWMS was able to test whether and how the portal works in a real environment when it is connected to the hardware.

Solution

The result is a cloud-based IoT application, that enables all participating user groups to monitor the current status of the lighting systems. This web portal can call up and display the components and parameters for a system from a central database via an interface. If necessary, the user can make changes and log errors. The portal maps the entire life cycle of every plant component – from assembly to dismantling, for example if a plant has to be disposed of. The user-friendly dashboard, which can show the user, for example, visualized hall plans, helps here.

Usefulness

With the web portal, customers can call up data on their lighting systems at any time without having to inspect them individually. This saves time and makes monitoring more efficient. The application indicates, for example, whether a lamp needs to be replaced. Necessary maintenance work can therefore be planned more proactively. For example, if a light is not used, is it unnecessary? Such information opens up concrete savings potential for the customer. Since the system reports when, for example, a lighting system is gradually emitting less light, it also makes a contribution to work safety.
